In April 2020, I was a recipient of the National Geographic Society’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists. With this support from NatGeo, I documented how my community – Kibera was responding to the realities of coronavirus. People started wearing masks – created from homemade fabric scraps, every storefront had a handwash station placed at the entrance, the community rose fast to curb the spread of coronavirus.
